Darwin Camel Rides offers beach camel tours from Mindil Beach, giving visitors a different way to experience one of Darwin’s best-known coastal locations. Rides take place along the coastline, with the beach providing the setting for a scenic, outdoor activity in the heart of the city. The business operates on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and also appears at the Mindil Markets on Thursdays and Sundays, making it an option to consider alongside a market visit or an afternoon by the beach.

The experience is designed for a broad range of visitors, including families, solo travellers and groups looking for something unusual to do in Darwin. Children aged four and over can ride on their own seat if they can understand and follow basic safety instructions. Group bookings are available for up to eight people, with the business catering for work functions, birthdays, parties and other gatherings. For a private or shared event, bookings can be arranged by contacting the team directly.

The rides are led by friendly, experienced staff and involve camels described by the business as well trained. Guests are asked to wear closed-in shoes, and phones should remain away during the ride for safety. Cameleers can take photos on a guest’s phone when prompted, allowing riders to keep a record of the experience without handling their device while mounted. The stated weight limit is 90kg per seat; guests over that limit are assigned their own camel and an additional seat charge applies.

The business grew from founder Nader’s long-standing connection with animals and camel keeping. After finding an orphaned baby camel in 2021, he and his family raised Sid, who became the starting point for Darwin Camel Rides. Nader later travelled around Australia to learn more about camel care and the camel industry before identifying a gap in Darwin’s tourism offering. Today, the operation is based at Mindil Beach, near the area used for the Mindil Beach Markets. Bookings are required, and the business states that cancellations made with at least 48 hours’ notice receive a full refund.
