AI-assisted, source-checked
Darwin's 666 venues are drafted by AI reading each venue's own material, then checked against that material. The model doesn't rank and doesn't recall — asked about a venue from memory it would invent something plausible, so it's never asked.
What we do not do: we do not visit every venue, we do not have owner confirmation for listings unless a listing says so, and we do not present a compiled listing as a review. Where a listing has been checked in person or confirmed by the venue, it will say so with a date.
We don't invent facts
We publish only what we can source, which in Darwin means accepting there's a lot we can't. Many operators publish hours only on Facebook and change them between seasons. Where we don't have something solid, the listing stays short and factual rather than being padded into something that looks more complete than it is.
Sourcing & attribution
Our information comes from a mix of sources, including:
- The venue's own website and menu, though many Darwin operators publish hours only on Facebook
- Google Places for location, hours and rating volume, never for our descriptions
- Ticketing platforms for events: Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, Moshtix, Meetup and AllEvents
- Reader corrections, overwhelmingly about wet-season closures and market dates
Where images or facts come from a third party, we attribute them where appropriate and link out so you can check the original.
The Spot Score, in plain language
Darwin has the thinnest review data of anywhere we cover, split across two seasons that behave like different cities. A venue busy through the dry may barely open through the wet, and its ratings reflect whichever period the reviewers visited. Ranking on volume would be close to meaningless. The Spot Score leans much harder on whether our own information is complete and current, compares venues only against their local peers, and ignores money entirely.
Freshness & verification
Venues change constantly, so freshness is built into our process and into the Spot Score itself — older, unverified information counts for less. We re-check listings over time and update them as sources change. Even so, please treat time-sensitive details like hours and menus as a guide and confirm with the venue before you go.
How to report an inaccuracy
Found something wrong, out of date or a venue that's closed? Please tell us via our contact form and we'll review and fix it quickly. Spotting errors helps everyone, and we're grateful for it.
What this looked like for Darwin
Darwin has the thinnest data of any city we cover, and it's split across two seasons that behave like different places. A venue busy through the dry may barely open through the wet, and its reviews reflect whichever period the reviewers happened to visit. Ranking on review volume here is close to meaningless, so we lean much harder on whether our own information is complete and current.
Many Darwin operators publish nothing beyond a Facebook page. We'll read hours and a menu from there, but we won't build a description out of social posts — those venues get a short factual listing and stay out of the indexed guide.
A large share of eating out here happens at markets rather than fixed venues, and market dates move with the season. We list them properly instead of treating them as a footnote, and market dates are the second most common thing readers correct after wet-season closures.
