SWELL Palmerston (Palmerston Pool and Gym)

SWELL Palmerston is a multi-activity aquatic and fitness facility serving Palmerston and nearby communities from its site on Tilston Avenue in Moulden. It brings swimming, gym and group exercise together with activities for children, making it a practical option for people who want to train, learn water skills, relax or keep the family occupied in one place.

The aquatic area has three pools with different uses. The 50-metre competition-style pool is set up for lap swimming as well as a casual dip, while the heated 20-metre pool is intended for rehabilitation and more relaxed sessions. Younger children have a splash pad to enjoy. The centre also runs a swimming and water safety program, supporting learners as they build an important life skill.

For land-based exercise, members can use the fully stocked Health Club or join group fitness programs. The site positions these options as part of a broader health and wellbeing journey, so the facility can suit someone training independently as well as people who prefer scheduled classes. Its membership model provides access to the available facilities, with program information offered separately for swimming, gym and exercise activities.

Families have another reason to visit in the three-storey Adventure Play course, described by SWELL as an active, high-energy addition to the centre. The overall offering is designed for people of different ages and abilities, with family amenities alongside fitness, rehabilitation and aquatic activities. That range makes it suitable for individual members, parents and children, older adults and people returning to exercise.

The centre’s community focus also comes through in its programs and people. SWELL Palmerston highlights Fit for Life classes for older adults, designed to support healthy ageing and help reduce social isolation. It also shares the story of Deb Pennell, who progressed from taking part in aqua sessions to becoming an instructor within 18 months. SWELL Palmerston is managed by Belgravia Leisure on behalf of the City of Palmerston, and provides a broad local base for swimming, exercise and family recreation in Darwin’s Palmerston area.
