Juliet Shields Park

Juliet Shields Park is a shaded outdoor space at 3 Moore St, Muirhead, listed for the Casuarina area of Darwin. Its main feature is a playground designed for all ages, with a rope climbing structure and an accessible swing seat. Families can also make use of the seating areas and tables, including an undercover area with two barbecues.

The park includes an accessible path, drinking fountain, bicycle and walking paths, and a bike rack. These facilities make it suitable for a family outing, a casual picnic or a stop for people travelling by bike or on foot. The council lists the park as available during daylight hours, rather than providing set opening times.

The park is named for Juliet Shields, who was one of the Northern Territory’s most senior lawyers and its most senior female lawyer. She moved to Darwin in 1961 and went on to hold senior roles in the Commonwealth Law Office and the Northern Territory Department of Law, including responsibility for the Commercial Division. She also served as Registrar General and chaired the Agents Licensing Board. Her story gives the park a local connection beyond its recreational facilities.
