Why it's worth checking out

Dumpling Chef Casuarina Square brings a broad Chinese and Taiwanese-inspired menu to Casuarina, Darwin, with dumplings at the centre of the offering. The menu includes handmade boiled dumplings with pork or vegetarian fillings, dumplings served in mild chilli oil, steamed juicy pork dumplings and wontons filled with chicken and prawn. There is also a pan-fried dumpling selection with pork and chives, chicken, wagyu or vegetarian fillings, giving diners several ways to explore the kitchen’s speciality.

The range extends well beyond dumplings. Steamed and fried dim sum, spring rolls, curry puffs, sesame balls, sesame prawn toast, Taiwanese pancakes and steamed buns sit alongside noodle soups, fried rice, rice dishes and stir-fried noodles. Dishes include Taiwanese beef noodle soup, wonton noodle soup, Singapore noodles, Malaysian-style Hokkien noodles and char kwei teow. The menu also has vegetarian choices, including vegetarian dumplings, fried rice, noodles and noodle soup. Drinks include teas, juices, iced tea, soft drinks and sparkling water.

The Dumpling Chef story is built around traditional recipes and the cultural role of dumplings in China, where they are associated with reunions, wellbeing, harmony and abundance. The brand says its chef travelled through towns and villages across China, learning from other dumpling makers and gathering recipes passed down through generations. Its first store opened at Westfield Plenty Valley in 2014, and the business later expanded through franchising, eventually opening stores in Darwin and Adelaide as well as continuing its growth in Melbourne.

For a quick solo meal, the menu offers individual dumplings, noodle soups, rice dishes and snacks. Groups can share dim sum and dumpling selections, while families have plenty of familiar options alongside more specialised dishes. Dumpling Chef also provides catering, with mixed fried dumplings, fried dim sum, Singapore noodles, fried rice and several chicken and beef dishes available for larger gatherings. Catering orders require at least 48 hours’ notice on weekdays, according to the website. The venue’s food is available to dine in or take away, and the brand also directs customers to its app for menus, stores and ordering.

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.0 from 177 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
