Why it's worth checking out
Darwin Waterfront Luxury Suites offers self-contained one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments at 19 Kitchener Drive in the Darwin Waterfront precinct. The accommodation is positioned close to the Darwin Convention Centre, Wave Pool, Recreation Lagoon, waterfront dining and Smith Street Mall, giving guests a convenient base for a city stay. The precinct itself combines lawns, swimming areas, cafés, bars and restaurants, while the wider city is within reach for trips to places such as Mindil Beach Markets.
The apartments are designed for guests who want more space than a standard hotel room. Depending on the suite, features include a separate lounge, open-plan dining, self-contained kitchen, balcony, outdoor seating and BBQ facilities. Some apartments overlook the harbour, lagoon, pool or wider Waterfront precinct. The accommodation ranges from a one-bedroom apartment for two guests to larger three-bedroom residences sleeping up to seven, including a penthouse with views towards Darwin Harbour, the Convention Centre and Wave Pool.
A notable option is the complimentary Toyota Corolla available with selected two-bedroom apartments carrying the free-car package in their room name. The vehicle is automatic, limited to sealed roads and includes 100 kilometres per day; drivers must be at least 25, and a $1,000 bond or damage deposit applies. This can suit guests planning drives to Litchfield National Park or the Jumping Crocodile Cruise, although the property's terms note that longer trips to Kakadu and Katherine Gorge are not suitable for the included vehicle arrangement.
The business was founded by Katherine and Gloria Thomson, who describe their approach as creating a comfortable, home-like base for visitors to Darwin. There is no longer a physical showroom at the Waterfront, with keys collected through on-site lockboxes and a nearby team available to assist. Additional arrangements such as baby supplies, car seats, beach accessories and tour information can also be organised. With a Google rating of 4.8 from 121 reviews, the suites are suited to families, two couples, friends, business travellers and guests staying for several nights or longer.
