Casuarina Square

Casuarina Square is a major shopping and community destination in Casuarina, in Darwin’s northern suburbs. The centre has more than 180 stores, bringing together national retailers, local businesses, fashion and lifestyle brands, dining, entertainment and everyday services in one location. It has been part of the Territory since opening in 1973 and describes itself as the Northern Territory’s largest shopping centre.

There is more here than a standard retail trip. Visitors can browse the stores, eat in the food court or outdoor dining precinct, catch a film and make use of practical centre services. Casuarina Square’s community focus is a central part of its identity. The centre says it supports cultural events, school programs, Indigenous initiatives and grassroots partnerships across the Top End, and its “Your Cas, Your Way” campaign was created with Darwin-based agency Going North. The campaign features local stories, including a Greek elder who visits the food court each morning, a local mother and a young sports enthusiast. This gives the centre a distinctly local character rather than presenting it only as a place to shop.

Families are well catered for during seasonal programs and school holidays, with the website highlighting activities such as face painting, craft sessions, egg hunts, train rides and children’s creative workshops. Other listed events have included a social Heart Foundation Walking Group, a Straw Tower Challenge and performances by Gravity & Other Myths. These activities make Casuarina Square suitable for families and groups looking for something beyond shopping, while the dining areas and broad mix of stores also work for solo errands, catch-ups or a relaxed wander.
